Layering ideas for drone
Sub + octave above (harmonics 1 & 2): The foundation. Bass and guitar in unison, one octave apart.
Add the 5th (harmonic 3): Power chord interval. Reinforces the root without harmonic color - heavy and ambiguous.
The natural 7th (harmonic 7): Slightly flat of equal temperament - darker than a tempered minor 7th. Characteristic of natural-tuned drones.
Sine wave synth layers: Use the Hz values directly to tune oscillators to exact harmonics. Dial in the frequency field in your synth - no guessing at note names.
Beating / detuning: Layer two oscillators a few cents apart at any harmonic for slow, organic beating. Lower harmonics = slower beat rate for a given detune amount.
