Per-string tension
Comfortable feel runs roughly 13–19 lb per guitar string (30–50 lb for bass). Below that gets floppy; well above gets stiff and sharp to fret. Tension uses the D'Addario formula T = UW·(2·L·f)²⁄386.4; unit weights are standard plain-steel/nickel-wound estimates (±a few %).
